Stamped: 101/004 – GJERSEN 925.
Brooch made of silver with garnet and 14-karat gold wings. This brooch was a pre-study for the Big-Headed Fly ring.
The ideas behind this insect:
This piece captures the transformation from fly larva to mature fly. The wings have not yet unfolded fully and the legs are still developing. The large compound eye is fully developed. At the base is the ‘knapsack’ of nutrients on which the fly larva feeds inside its pupa, here rendered in faceted garnet set in gold.
Habitat:
Strap on your helmet and fly! In the corner of the home, the eye fly larva sits almost ready to fly. Its wings and helmet hang ready for takeoff.
Materials:
Copper frame, copper, brass and painted wood.
This piece is an element in a composite artistic work, and is part of the HABITAT project.
